Gestational diabetes mellitus, an illness that can lead to health complications for children from a very young age, is directly tied to disfunctions in endothelial colony-forming cells, a type of stem cells that plays a role in the formation of the human body. The reduced production of the transgelin protein in these cells is at the basis of this type of disfunction.
My research work in this field pertains to testing and analyzing the performance of a nanoparticle-based drug aimed at normalizing the production rates of transgelin.
